Bria Smith challenged some of the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. She asked them if they were as outraged by the kind of everyday gun violence she witnessed in Milwaukee as they were about the mass shooting at their school. Eventually, they joined forces, and Bria became a board member of March for Our Lives. When a shooting took place at Miller Brewing, Smith, a filmmaker, journalist, activist and college student, came home to Milwaukee and began organizing. She put together an “art build” for area young people. She also elevates the stories of young women of color experiencing oppression, discrimination and misrepresentation. She runs a website to give such voices a platform called Honey for your Tea.
