We published 20,000 copies of a newspaper-like publication, to bring many of the voices in our project to libraries, schools, community centers and other sites across Milwaukee. One of the primary goals of the publication is to drive people to our website, where “This is Milwaukee” interviews can be heard at some length. Thousands of copies of the 12-page special publication (5,000 copies had a Spanish-language edition folded inside) were delivered to Milwaukee high schools. The publication, designed by Ken Hanson of Greater Together, was also distributed at dozens of locations. Three of those sites are newspaper boxes once used to distribute the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that have been transformed by area artists into expressions of democracy. To learn more about these artists—Zachary Ochoa, David Najib Kasir and Aisha Valentín—and the public artworks they created for the “This is Milwaukee” project, visit this page.
