Darryl Morin is a leader who breaks down traditional lines. He’s the CEO of Advanced Wireless in Franklin, but more people know him for his activism on Latino issues. He’s the President of Forward Latino and has held various state and national positions with the League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC. He worked with leaders from the NAACP in Milwaukee on policing issues and with the Milwaukee Jewish Federation to lobby for DACA protections. Some people raise an eyebrow because he is a suburban businessman and self-professed fiscal conservative but also a social progressive. Those who know him see no contradictions and say he’s a committed coalition builder. Darryl was born and raised in Chicago, the son of a migrant worker who started a paving company. When Darryl couldn’t find a job after graduating from the University of North Texas but wanted to work, he shoveled asphalt for his dad before going into sales. His immigration-related activism began when he learned about a fellow parishioner who faced deportation to Africa where she could face death. He made headlines last year when he announced he was leaving the Republican Party and becoming an independent, in part because of the party’s its defense of President Donald Trump’s racist remarks. He’s served on a wide range of boards, including the Milwaukee Jewish Museum, the Hmong American Peace Academy and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. Darryl has been named Hispanic Man of the Year by UMOS and a Friend of Education by the State of Wisconsin.
