Gerard Randall has done more community service work and held more government posts than we’re going to get into here. Let’s just say, it’s a lot, and it’s clear that education is an enduring passion. Gerard served as the community relations counsel in the Milwaukee County executive’s office and then was president and CEO of the Private Industry Council of Milwaukee County, a workforce development board. He was the founding member of the Milwaukee Education Partnership and for the past decade has been its executive director. MEP aims to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Milwaukee Public Schools. It aims to bring every student to grade level or beyond in reading, writing, math and science; to improve access to higher education opportunities; and to advocate for public education generally. Some years ago, Gerard was a teacher within MPS and at Dominican High School, where he won Ameritech’s Teacher Award twice. He also has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and was vice president of the UW System Board of Regents. He’s served on a variety of boards, from the UW System Diversity Council and the Governor’s Task Force on Minority Unemployment to VISIT Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Arts Board. He’s on the Gov. Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership’s board and has long been friends with the former governor. Gerard is an active as been active in Republican politics and was on hand when the GOP opened a campaign office in the Bronzeville neighborhood over the winter.
